How to Secure WordPress Sites with CAPTCHA

Sharing is caring!

Hello everyone! Welcome to another WordPress guide!

Today I’m going to show you how to secure your WordPress sites with CAPTCHA.

And by doing that, we will need a plugin to make this work!

But before we do that, I’ll give you brief information on why you need CAPTCHA on your WordPress sites.

So to start it off — The CAPTCHA (Completely Automated Public Turing Test) is a test that detects between computers and humans.

To distinguish between actual users and artificial users, such as bots, you can employ CAPTCHAs. CAPTCHAs are a set of tasks that are tough for machines to solve but relatively simple for people to solve.

these types of challenges are like:

  • Identifying Streched Letters or Numbers
  • Selecting Specific Images

CaPTCHA does exactly that, and it protects both you and your website.

Adding CAPTCHA to your WordPress site

Now that I’ve talked to you about why we need CAPTCHA and what it is, we’re ready to put the CAPTCHA plugin on our WordPress site for good!

We must, as expected, be on our WordPress dashboard.

After that, go to Plugins and select Add New.

Search for CAPTCHA 4WP once you’ve clicked Add New.

After that, look for CAPTCHA 4WP and click it to install it.

Once installed, click Activate!

Navigate to Settings and select CAPTCHA 4WP after the plugin has been activated.

Here’s what you should see:

Click the highlighted word [Google reCAPTCHA dashboard] in the Google Keys section. (This will take you to the reCAPTCHA administrator’s page.)

This is what you should see once you’ve arrived at the reCAPTCHA admin page:

Type your site’s name in the Label box — I placed Try Divi in the Label box because my site’s name is Try Divi.

Select reCAPTCHA v2 as the reCAPTCHA type – under reCAPTCHA v2, the “I’m not a robot” checkbox should appear automatically.

This is simple for domains! But there’s a twist.
Instead of typing in the address bar, I typed

The URL of your website should be copied and pasted without the “https://”

It looks like this:

After entering your website’s URL, click the “+” button to add it to the list.

Accept the reCAPTCHA Terms of Service by clicking the Checkbox next to it.

Then hit the SUBMIT key!

You’ll be sent to this page after that. (Which generated the CAPTCHA keys that we’ll be utilizing)

That tab should remain open.

Returning to the CAPTCHA 4WP Settings in WordPress.

You’ll see that under Enabled Forms, you have a lot of alternatives to pick from!

For now, we’ll select Login Forms from the drop-down menu.

After that, scroll down to explore additional options for personalizing your CAPTCHA!

But we’re not going to touch it; instead, we’re going to press Save Changes.

After you’ve saved your modifications, log out of your WordPress dashboard and you should see something like this!

Now that you’ve installed a CAPTCHA on your WordPress site, it’ll offer an extra degree of protection, ensuring that you don’t get spam or get hacked. I hope this was of assistance, and if it was, please share it with your family and friends! And I’ll meet you all again in a different blog.
